New: OptiQL — ask your cloud data anything
OptiQL is a SQL workspace over all of your Azure and AWS data: cost, resources, tags, waste, recommendations and budgets. Chart the answer and share the query with your team. Now in public preview.
Every FinOps team has a list of questions no dashboard quite answers. Which untagged resources cost the most this month? How did our top five services move over the last quarter, per account? What share of spend sits in accounts no team owns?
Until now, answering those meant an export, a spreadsheet and an afternoon. OptiQL makes it a query. It’s available today in public preview.
One workspace, both clouds
OptiQL is a SQL editor over everything CloudOptify knows about your estate: daily cost by service and account, resources and their tags, waste findings, recommendations, budget alerts and cloud groups. Azure and AWS sit side by side in the same tables, and every amount is already converted to one currency. A single query can compare both clouds without any stitching.
Not sure where to start? The Examples tab has ready-made queries for common FinOps questions, such as top services, month-over-month spend per account, untagged resources, waste by category, and tax and credits by month. Load one with a click and adapt it. The Schema tab explains every table and column, so you never have to guess what a field means.
From answer to chart
A result is rarely the end of the conversation. Switch it between a table, a bar or line chart, a share breakdown or a single headline number. Copy it straight into a spreadsheet or download it as CSV.
Queries worth keeping
The best queries get asked again. Save one and choose who can see it:
- Only me, while you’re still working on it;
- Specific people, to hand a colleague the exact analysis you ran;
- Everyone in your organisation, to make it part of how the team works.
Shared queries run exactly as their author wrote them, chart included. Everyone looking at “untagged spend by account” is looking at the same numbers, calculated the same way.
Safe by design
A SQL editor over live financial data has to be boring in the right ways. Every OptiQL query runs read-only against an isolated copy of your organisation’s data, built for that query and discarded afterwards. It never touches our live database and can never see another organisation’s data. Statements that would write anything are refused with a clear explanation.
Try it
OptiQL is in public preview. When your plan includes it, you’ll find it in the portal navigation. The OptiQL guide walks through the workspace, and we’d love to hear which questions you ask first. Tell us what’s missing, because the roadmap for the preview is shaped by what you run.
